FedEx / Malin and Goetz
I keeping hearing about shopping on the internet replacing the mall / brick and mortar stores. I buy some things on the internet but I prefer to buy most things in person. My last internet buying experience from Malin and Goetz:

Sushi Bento / 82280 Highway 111 Indio, CA 92201
This place may be small but it is mighty. When your food is served be prepared to receive a visual work of art. Colors, shapes, textures and taste are sure to amaze. We did not want to leave and I was disappointed I could not finish my plate since it was too long of a drive to take home leftovers. Next time I’ll bring the cooler! This place deserves five stars for the prompt and thoughtful service, the exquisite combination of ingredients and the outstanding food freshness. I’ve been to other sushi places and the freshness is an issue at quite a few, but definitely not here. I…

OB Noodle House – Cable St.
I remember my brother use to drive me and my mom to Ocean Beach when he got his first car. There is laid back vibe here. I enjoyed fishing off the pier and exploring the tide pools. You never know what you will see in the tide pools or the beach. OB Noodle House is now one of the things I look forward to when I visit Ocean Beach.

Pizza Port – Solana Beach
I remember the ice cold glass bottle. The sweet bubbly root beer contained within. 12oz of the best tasting drink I’ve tasted. Charles Elmer Hires introduced the first commercial brand of root beer in the year 1875. He wanted to name the product “root tea,” he branded it as “root beer” to sell it among the coal miners of Pennsylvania. Sadly Hires Root Beer has been discontinued in California for decades. Over the years I’ve tried to find solace in other root beers. I’ve tried Shasta root beer, the generic super market versions, A+W, Mug, and Barq’s which is my current favorite. They aren’t as good as Hires. I’ve gone…

Greystone Prime Steakhouse & Seafood / 658 5th Avenue San Diego, CA 92101
This is one of our rare joint posts. First portion written by myself, Maggie. We came here for Restaurant week anticipating a great meal. Not only was the meal remarkable, I found a new entree I’d like to order again. As always I admired Greystone’s gorgeous interior decoration as we climbed the stairs leading to our seat beneath the upstairs skylight. Today I thought I’d be adventurous and order the bison tenderloin. Turned out to be an excellent decision as the bison was tender, mouthwatering and matched nicely with the poached pear, fig port reduction and risotto cake. Needless to say I finished the entire plate. My portobello mushroom was…

The Americans by Robert Frank
I remember first taking photography in junior high. I borrowed a camera from class and after school I took photos of cars driving by. In high school I started taking photos of the ocean and the city. I saved up my paper route money and bought my first film camera. A Nikon FE-2. At UCSD I studied photography under Phel Steinmetz and learned how to tell stories with images. We went on outings to take photographs and learned of photographers who came before us.

San Tung
San Tung is located in the Inner Sunset district. I remember visiting my aunt who lived on the other side of Golden Gate Park starting when I was around 4. I like how this area fairly quiet and not too far from the ocean. During my early visits I loved how the fog rolled in from the ocean and covered the city.

Island Style Cafe
Fluffy. Cold. Sweet Tiger’s Blood which is not as famous as it’s better known name Hawaiian Punch. Huge bowl of shaved ice is enough for 2 people. This is one of my fav spots to get shaved ice in San Diego. I love the fluffy ice and the syrup has delicious flavors in addition to the sweetness. Hawaiian music in the background and the bold flavored food here make my think back on my trips to Hawaii. Those were some of the best times of my life. Playing on black sand beaches in Maui with my kid. Helicopter ride over Kauai. Eating malasadas from Leonard’s. Island Style Cafe has some…
