Island Style Cafe

Fluffy.  Cold.  Sweet Tiger’s Blood which is not as famous as it’s better known name Hawaiian Punch.  Huge bowl of shaved ice is enough for 2 people.  This is one of my fav spots to get shaved ice in San Diego.  I love the fluffy ice and the syrup has delicious flavors in addition to the sweetness.  Hawaiian music in the background and the bold flavored food here make my think back on my trips to Hawaii.  Those were some of the best times of my life.  Playing on black sand beaches in Maui with my kid.  Helicopter ride over Kauai.  Eating malasadas from Leonard’s.  Island Style Cafe has some of my favorite dishes from Hawaii.

Fried rice had a delicious flavor from the bacon and little chunks of bbq pork.  Quite impressive as many Chinese restaurants I go to have flavorless fried rice if you get it as a side with the lunch special.
Kalua pork was extremely tender, juicy, and had a delicious smoky flavor.  I’ve made this dish many times for the flavor wasn’t as good as here.  Only available Friday.
Kalbi had a delicious flavor from the marinade and char from the grill.  Very tender and juicy meat.
Teriyaki beef was a bit tough to cut but was nicely marinated and the sweet teriyaki glaze gave it delicious flavor.  Nice char flavor for the grill.
Bbq chicken had a nice sweet sauce on it.  Perfectly cooked.
Korean chicken had a nice crunchy batter and delicious marinated flavor similar to the kalbi
French fries were crispy and had a nice potato flavor.
Latest visit:
Hawaiian shaved ice was fluffy and I picked lime and mango flavor.  Lime was delicious like 7UP without the lemon part.  Mango did not taste like mango to me and I wouldn’t order it again.  You can get up to 3 flavors.  I’ll have go through the rest of the flavor menu to determine which flavors I like.
Island Style Cafe is a great place to relax and enjoy delicious island food until our next Hawaiian adventure.
I found this place reading Kirk’s post from mmm-yoso.

  1. This is one of my favorite places to get Hawaiian food! Glad to hear you enjoyed our Hawaii vacations so much with our girls!

    1. I love Hawaii and the food. 🙂

  2. We sometimes stop here after shopping at the Market next door; close to home (one exit away on the 52). Always good food. Haven’t tried the shave ice yet, though; we will.

    1. Cathy,

You are lucky living so close. I rarely get to visit on Friday when they have the kalua pork special. The market has a pretty good selection.

  3. Thanks for the mention Soo! My favorite item at ISC is the Kaloko Moco….hmmm…..I probably should get me fix soon.

    1. Kirk,

You are welcome! I will have to try the Kaloko Moco. So far the Kalbi is my fav item.

  4. Did the pork have cabbage in it too? The galbi looks delish. How are prices here?

    1. Faye the pork did have cabbage. I make kalua pork with alot more cabbage then they do.
