New Gold Medal Restaurant

I love visiting Chinatown when I visit a city.  Los Angeles was the first.  I remember driving there with my mom and my brother.  There were many exotic places we visited and we brought home lots of Chinese food unavailable in San Diego.  Next was San Francisco where we met my aunt who introduced me to ice cream and took us out shopping in the very crowded Chinatown.  It was the biggest Chinatown I’d seen and the most Chinese people all gathered in once place.  The last Chinatown I visited was on Oahu.  That one was quiet and the food didn’t have the flavors I’m use to in California.

My Yelp friend Harvey took us on a brief tour of Oakland’s Chinatown.  It was exciting as it’s been years since I’ve visited a new Chinatown.  Oakland’s Chinatown was smaller and not as busy as San Francisco’s.  I enjoyed seeing all the unique shops and restaurants.
We stopped to eat at New Gold Medal Restaurant.

I was going to order some pan fried noodles but then I noticed the ducks in the windows.  They were glowing red glistening in the sun.  I could not resist.  Skin was crisp and along with the tender juicy meat full of delicious 5 star powder based flavor.

Wish they had more roast duck bursting with flavor like this in San Diego.

I sampled the spicy bell pepper chicken.  Chicken had a delicious bell pepper flavor and not the burn your mouth spice I was worried about.
I also sampled the roast pork.  Skin was crunchy while the roast pork was tender and had a delicious 5 star powder flavor.
Staff was nice and I loved the meats I tried.  🙂

  1. That’s great you got to spend time with your friend Harvey.

    1. Harvey is cool!

  2. Makes me sad reading this as SD lacks the same quality roast duck and service. I can’t remember the last time anyone let you sample the roast meats at sam woo . It’s funny as I don’t like the white meat of chicken but I love the ‘white’ breast meat of roast duck.

    1. Faye,

I sampled Mari and Harvey’s food. I love visiting the bay area as the Chinese food is so delicious there. Roast duck is hard to beat but I do love soy sauce chicken and fried chicken. I’ll be going on another road trip to the bay area next month. 🙂
