Hong Kong Bbq
This spot was an empty field when we moved to the neighborhood. Later there was a movie theatre.

Golden Chopsticks
I remember Mira Mesa when Mira Mesa Blvd ended at Parkdale. I explored the wilderness past Parkdale on my bike with rarely a person out in the desolate landscape. It was quiet back then with hardly any traffic. The movie theatre was a 4 plex in Mira Mesa mall. I remember a dirt lot where in 2022 Golden Chopstick would open in Mira Mesa. In early 2022 a sign announced Golden Chopsticks would be opening soon. I have been waiting all year for Golden Chopsticks to open. The original location has delicious food but terrible parking. The Mira Mesa location has lots of free parking.

The Fancy Fish
Driving past Mira Mesa High my old high school I approach The Fancy Fish. It’s in what was the Ralphs shopping center. H-Mart replaced Ralphs in 2012. Past H-Mart I find The Fancy Fish. When we needed a break from the suburbs we hiked Los Penasquitos Canyon Trail. In the spring there…

Jollibee
I lived in Mira Mesa in the 80’s + 90’s. Not many food options outside of fast food joints back then. Now it appears to be the golden age of dining. Jollibee was in Mira Mesa back in 2010 and I found their food ok. They returned to Mira Mesa December 3, 2020 and I gave them another try.

Some mornings I wake up and want to taste the unique blend of crispy/crunchy fried pork skin, fat, and tender pork they call lechon kawali.

Aldi – Mira Mesa
I remember when this land was dirt, shrubs, and a few rabbits.

Fuddruckers – Mira Mesa
I miss the neon lights and the anachronisms which caught my eye while my burger was cooking on the flattop.
