Central Coast Meat Market

I have always wanted to visit Pismo Beach but haven’t had the chance till now.  My Yelp friend Paul M. suggested I visit Central Coast Meat Market knowing my love of bbq.  I visited at the end of October and Pismo beach was nice with the temps in the mid 70’s.  There was a good number of parking spots and a quiet laid back beach town vibe.

Checking the menu board there was a variety of meats and side dishes to choose from.  I ordered meats by the 1/4 and 1/2 pound to try.

Friendly guy at the counter informed me they smoke the meats with a mixture of red and white oak.
1/4 lb pulled pork.  Tender, moist pork with a nice smoky flavor.
1/4 lb beef brisket.  Brisket was tender and I loved the bold smoky flavor from the bark.
Bimbo sandwich bread was soft, fluffy, and had a mild fresh baked flavor.
1/2 lb pork ribs.  Tender pork with a mix of smoky flavor and incredibly flavorful dry rub.  These ribs are among the best I’ve had.
Friendly meat cutter.

Bbq sauce had some bite to it.  Not your usually sweet and tangy sauce.  Friendly counter guy told me the sauce is more vinegar based.
After our lunch we took a quick look at the beach and pier a block away.
I look forward to visiting this lovely beach town again and eating more bbq.  One of these days I’m going to get an order to go, walk down to the pier and watch the sunset.  It would be a perfect way to end the day.
Next stop on my San Francisco road trip will be an Airbnb in San Francisco.

  1. Nice way to spend the afternoon with you! Really like their turkey, Mac/cheese and potato salad, yum! Would have been fun to walk along the beach too. :>)

  2. We can take a walk around the beach next time!

  3. Never been to Pismo. How’s the drive so far? I’m always amazed when people take long drives up the coast.

    1. The drive was relaxing with lots of stops. San Diego to Palos Verdes 2 1/2 hours. LA to Santa Maria 3 hours. Santa Maria to Pismo Beach 40 minutes. Pismo Beach to San Francisco 4 hours. San Francisco to Pismo Beach 4 hours. Pismo Beach to Solvang 1 hour.

We stayed 1 night in Palos Verdes. 1 night in Santa Maria. 4 nights in San Francisco. 4 nights in Solvang. It’s fun seeing the sights up the coast. 🙂
