Benihana 755 Raintree Dr, Carlsbad, CA 92011
Keeper of the flame Planner of family traditions Oh how I love thee This Benihana and the Mission Valley location have long been a family tradition among us to celebrate each member’s birthday. We could fill up a huge photo album worth of birthday pictures. I know what your thinking, it’s the same show and the same food each time. Oh contraire I say! The show’s do vary as the chefs learn new tricks. The food is still amazing and I try to sample something new from each menu category every visit.

Bourre Southern Bistro 6523 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92115
We showed up for dinner a bit early between 4:00 to 5:00 PM. The first people arriving for dinner! Yea! Right away I noticed the piano, microphone and thought to myself, it might be fun to come back for the entertainment one evening. Hat’s off to the interior decorator. Such warm inviting tones, interesting artwork, pictures of people and pretty seasonal Christmas decorations. Very classy.

La Costa Farms 1911 Saxony Rd, Encinitas, CA 92024
First discovered La Costa Farms not too long ago, it quickly became my favorite place to look for starter plants, bread, jam, flowers or fruit. They have an abundance of fresh produce, a large selection of breads, interesting variations of jams and jellies, various seasonal flower arrangements and potted plants for starters. I discover something new on each visit.

La Especial Norte 664 N Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024
Walking in it’s hard not to notice the bright bold happy colors and decorations throughout the restaurant. We were seated immediately by a window on the right side, my view on the left was a nice mural wall painting of the sea including dolphins and tropical fish.

Greystone Steakhouse 658 5th Ave, San Diego, CA 92101
Tiffany happily greeted us at the entrance and directed us upstairs, she is really great! It was hard not to notice all the holiday lights, bows, ornaments and the large wreath adorning the center. Very nicely done with an artistic eye tying the colors into the overall theme. Each table had a small glass vase complete with candle and red holy berries.

El Indio 3695 India St, San Diego, CA 92103
What to start out with, hmmm….The tortilla’s and chips are always fresh and flavorful. There is a mini serve yourself salsa bar, complete with small cups and lids. Upon entering the line is to the right, you order, they take your name and when your name is called you have to come back up to the counter to retrieve your meal. Drinks are also self serve and they have a variety of Mexican favorites. The horchata is really good.
