This place is just fabulous and I can’t say enough about it. We’ve kept up on visiting and each time I can really tell how happy and well cared for all of the animals are. Super sweet, trusting dispositions that take great care when you stretch out your hand to feed them.

The huge steer I fed recently surprised me by gently wrapping his tongue around the hay. I’ve gotten pretty good at using one hand to feed and the other to snap a hopefully great shot. Or for particular animals one hand to feed and the other to pet! I’m tall so this is doable for me.

They have various in person animal encounters for an additional fee of $35.00 per person. I decided it was time to see the birds. The bird handler lady that took us to the bird room impressed me. She knew each story of how the birds came to the nature retreat, their individual dispositions plus previous owner info. I enjoyed talking and whistling with each bird. I could tell how much they loved their keeper. I could have stayed all day and hung out waiting for one of them to decide I was worthy of an arm or shoulder perch. Perhaps on my next encounter.

  1. The birds are lovely!

  2. They certainly are! Maybe next visit one of them will perch on my shoulder.
