Residence Inn by Marriott

10243 East Hampton Avenue. Mesa, Arizona 85209

After a long 7 hour drive, it was time to check in. The same beautifully maintained building greeted me silently.

Bear approved

The lady at the counter was super friendly. However she initially scared me when I mentioned my Labrador waiting in the car (with air conditioning on) by telling me they no longer accepted large breeds. Blink, blink, blink, what? My last visit welcomed my dog, plus when I made my reservations online it specifically states in the pet policy that pets are allowed up to 65 pounds.

Silence from the lady at the counter. Then she stated that their new policy is small dogs only under 35 pounds. Now what? I’m certainly not going to drive back home for 7 hours or frantically look for another place. Again I’m greeted with silence while she typed on her computer. My heart was beating faster as I contemplated what to do if I was turned away.

Finally the nice lady stated since the pet policy was not updated on their website that we would not be turned away and could check in with my sweet dog. Wow I was super relieved and sad at the same time. As I wondered where I would go next visit with my dog?

Moving forward we checked out the hotel amenities this visit. The morning breakfast is served between 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM. But I think some days it ends at 8:30 AM. Anyway each morning offers a variety of coffees, juices, breads with numerous silver trays containing freshly cooked eggs, meats, pancakes or waffles. Depends on the morning. I like how they provide to go boxes so you can take food back to your room if your not interested in the lobby tables.

Also went to the pool later in the day when it was cooler since our visit was in July. The pool and spa are kept very clean. We had fun swimming, especially the grandkids. Pool towels are provided by the front desk, all you gotta do is ask.

They also have a small fitness room and separate laundry room on the first floor. Which can be accessed with your room key. Laundry room is coin operated. If you need soap or dryer sheets they have a closet sized room located by the front desk containing sundries.

This visit our one bedroom suite was a corner unit on the first floor. I was told these are a bit larger. I did appreciate being close to the side door for necessary doggie walks and a shorter jaunt to our parked car. Another plus at least on the first floor, is public restrooms. So if you find yourself needing the restroom and yours is currently occupied, it’s comforting to know you can just walk down the hall.

Look inside the freezer. (Zip lock bags have peanut butter & pumpkin in them)

  1. Nice place. Bummer they are now discriminating against large dogs.

  2. Yes I’m hoping their website will continue to state they allow pets up to 65 pounds. Time will tell.
