Chicken Charlie’s – Rancho Bernardo
The first time I visited Chicken Charlie’s at the Del Mar Fair I tried a fried Twinkie. It was amazing. Each year I looked forward to seeing what new delicious treat he would fry up. Later he opened a sit down restaurant in Clairemont and I looked forward to his Facebook specials which featured a discount or something not on the regular menu. Sadly that location closed.

Chef Jun
I’ve seen the sign for Chef Jun on the way to Costco. Decided to try the place today. Lady in charge was nice and provided very good service.

102 Scone Company
I like to go biking in the morning when the air is fresh and not many cars are out. It’s cool seeing one of the owners of 102 Scone Company already hard at work. I took a break from visiting when they switched out the menu for scones. I noticed Kirk of mmm-yoso!!! found they have shifted back to croissants so I visited again.

Joshua Tree National Park
I have loved trees since I was a kid. I admired how Palm trees reach up towards the sky. They are an iconic part of the southern California landscape. I admired bonsai trees small enough to fit in a window sill and whose beauty are from nature and also guided by the hand of man. I admired Joshua trees for their wild and spiky appearance. I knew there was a National Park named after them and wanted to visit. We stayed in the Yucca Valley to visit Pioneertown and Joshua Tree National Park. There are trails to hike and lots of Joshua Trees.

Pioneertown, CA
Pioneertown. The wind blows sand in the air like when a gunslinger rides into town. This is the place I dreamed of as a child with my cap shooter holstered and in search of bad men to battle. Sand crunches beneath my feet as I explore town. There are all the shops you expect to find in an old western town. The coffin maker would be especially busy…
