My elementary school years I experimented with many different root beers. My favorite was Hires Root Beer. In my college years Hires disappeared from California. I could get it for a few more years in Yuma then it disappeared from Arizona as well.

Salt & Straw – One Paseo Yelp pre-Grand Opening event
Cold, smooth on my tongue, so creamy, rich vanilla flavor. They call it Double Fold Vanilla. It’s one of the best I’ve tasted. Reminds me of McConnell’s vanilla.

Anthony’s Fish Grotto / 9530 Murray Drive La Mesa, CA 91942
I’ve written about this place back in 2016, about the closing of their San Diego Bay restaurant. Now the only place to visit is in La Mesa. Such a beautiful location complete with a large pond including water features out back. Outdoor seating is right along the shoreline including umbrella’s, heaters, small dog play area and games to play.

Watermill Express
I like to start my morning by brewing some loose leaf jasmine tea. My Zojirushi water boiler has a timer so I can set it to have my water at the proper temperature when I wake up. Sadly San Diego has hard water so when it was time to clean the water boiler I had to find some citric acid to remove the deposits.

Noble Chef
When I was little my mom told me about life back in China. My mom, dad, and brother where born in a small village in Toishan. There wasn’t alot to eat other than rice and the occasional chicken. Perhaps that was why my mom would fill the freezer full of chickens when they had a good sale at the supermarket. While waiting for my order the waiter at Noble Chef asked me about my origins and it turns out he and the owner are also from Toishan.

Cafe 21
Time is relative. Albert Einstein I hate waiting. I eat at odd hours to avoid waiting in line. Eating at fast food restaurants rarely goes over a half hour. Eating at sit down restaurants take about an hour. Eating at Cafe 21 took close to 2 hours. I ordered quickly and then the waiting began for the food.

The Bear Pit Bar-B-Que
I was intrigued when I saw the sign advertising Missouri style bbq. Outside this place had the look of a classic eatery. Inside it looked like a historic house with a cute bear motiff.
