KFC – Mira Mesa Blvd
“We are making photographs to understand what our lives mean to us.” Ralph Hattersley I took a few photos of the chicken when the guy behind the counter told me photos are not allowed.

Suckerfree Southern Plate & Bar
As I walked towards Suckerfree Southern Plate & Bar I recalled a few years ago there was a bbq joint here and across the street was a Hard Rock Cafe. Suckerfree has a good size menu.

Chicken Charlie’s FRYBQ
I’m a huge fan of Chicken Charlie’s facebook deal of the day. Everyday there is a new special. These are the dishes I’ve tried. Fried chicken was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Very good flavor from the spices. A bit like Popeyes. This chicken is tastier but Popeyes is cheaper.

Howlin’ Ray’s
Saturday 10am. It’s opening time and there is a huge line. Luckily most of the line was in the shade so while it was hot and humid you won’t get sunburned.

By The Beach Caribbean Cuisine
I wake up Tuesdays and I think about battered pieces of chicken dipping into fresh canola oil. I try to get to By The Beach by 11am when the chicken is fresh out of the fryer.

Rock Steady Jamaican Restaurant
It’s been awhile since I’ve been out here. My preschool was nearby. Lots of places to fix up your car across the street. I came to try the Jamaican food. I’ve never been to Jamaica to try Jamaican food at it’s source but I had good Jamaican food in the Cayman Islands. Allspice, nutmeg, and 5 spice powder in Jamaican recipes result in some delicious spicy food. Atmosphere at Rock Steady has a mellow island vibe.

Darbi’s Cafe
When I was a kid I remember going up to the mountains to play in the snow. After a few hours of frozen fun we would eat at a local rustic looking cafe or diner. Now it looks like the fast food chains are invading the Pinetop area. There are still old school places though like Darbi’s Cafe.

Da Chicken Coop
When I was a kid I visited Lemon Grove for activities like Octoberfest and they use to grow lemons here. They also had the big lemon. It’s a cool neighborhood symbol. My current neighborhood could use a symbol as it’s pretty boring. The lemon trees are gone now but I’m glad the big lemon is still here. I visit Lemon Grove more since Coop’s opened. I also like visiting Da Chicken Coop which closed for awhile but has reopened with a revised menu. Chicken is all boneless now. Wait time on my order was minimal.
