    Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge Outlook

    December 29, 2017 /

08/19/2017   Driving by one afternoon we spied this rest stop outlook and had to take a look. We were disappointed to find out the refuge is closed to the public. I was so looking forward to bird watching and sightseeing. But I suppose if they let tourists in the endangered birds might not thrive. Maybe someday they will open it up when the bird numbers increase. Looking forward to that.

    Boathouse Restaurant

    December 28, 2017 /

I love watching blinking Christmas lights and the Peanuts Christmas Special Christmas Day.  We open presents and eat a home cooked meal.  This year we decided to try Christmas lunch at the Boathouse. They had a special menu just for today.

    Letty’s Casita – El Centro

    December 26, 2017 /

Letty’s looks like the houses I use to live near when I was a kid.  Nice roomy inside with a big yard in the front. Much more spacious than the tiny apartments we lived in.  I like the scents inside. I try a carne asada taco first.  Corn tortilla is freshly made in the kitchen.  I like the mild corn flavor.  Carne asada had a nice sweet beef flavor but the heavy charring distracted from the beef.  Also the beef was dry from over cooking.  Carnitas had interesting flavors.  Tasted like it was deep fried and a bit of salt was sprinkled on top.  Preparation seemed more like a…

08/20/2017 Driving by one day I just had to stop and take a longer look at this beautiful building. It really catches the eye. Wish we could have gone inside but we happened by when nobody was around.

The Donut Palace – El Centro

    December 23, 2017 /

When I was a kid and we were driving home from the beach I remember seeing the freeway sign for the 8 freeway to El Centro.  It was over a 100 miles away I wondered what it was like there.  We always got off the freeway before we got anywhere near El Centro.  I checked it out today on the way home from Scottsdale Arizona.  It was a small town full of fast food places and taco shops.  Looked kinda like El Cajon back in the old days.

    Corbin’s Q

    December 18, 2017 /

On the road past Malibu beaches were rolling hills of green.  Lovely strawberry fields tempted me to stop at a road side stand to get fresh strawberries.  Driving through Santa Maria  I stopped in a parking lot to try some genuine Santa Maria bbq.  It was delicious.

    Cross Street Chicken & Beer

    December 14, 2017 /

My first time here was about 10 years ago.  It was a taco shop and the food was ok.  I preferred Super Sergios down the street.  I guess that’s why the taco shop closed.   Now there is a waiting list at dinner time and the owner of Cross Street Chicken turned the minimally decorated building into a fancy looking and hip location.

I’ve found in all my years of customer service & mediation experience that if you put your heart into each and every situation you’ll never go wrong. During my early years of learning the ropes of serving people in my job, numerous consistencies appeared. The customer is always right, always acknowledge  & remember each person in some way, never ignore anyone, be genuine & honest in everything you do, when mediating differences never take sides. Later on these same consistencies took on more meaning and became ingrained with experience & time.
