Shotcaller Street Soul Food

Huffman’s BBQ was where metro is.
I visited this area alot back in the day when Huffman’s BBQ was open.  It was about a half hour wait for fried chicken but it was worth it.

Now I notice Shotcaller Street Soul Food has opened and has fried chicken wings.
Fried chicken wings were coated in a crunchy batter and nicely seasoned with salt and pepper.  Meat was tender and juicy.  Excellent wings.  Tater tots were crunchy with a delicious potato flavor.  French fries were crispy with a nice potato flavor.
Fried catfish was coated in crunchy corn meal batter.  Catfish had a fresh flavor but was a little saltier than I prefer.  French fries were crunchy and the mild potato flavor mellowed out the well seasoned catfish.  Fried rice was loaded with veggies like okra and corn.  Quite different from the Chinese style fried rice I’m use to.
Beef ribs were baked in the oven.  The 3 tender ribs made for a good size meal.  Baking didn’t impart much flavor.  I chose the sweet meat dry rub which added a little bit of sweet flavor.  Sprinkled on like salt on fries didn’t add much as dry rub works best when rubbed into the meat before cooking.  Next time I’m craving ribs I’ll hit a rib joint like Coop’s or Corbins.
Red snapper was fried in cornmeal batter.  I enjoyed the red snapper flavor but like the fried catfish the batter was a bit too salty.  The batter would have been perfect if the fillets were thick ones.  So far Chicken Coop is my fav spot for red snapper.
Cactus Cooler was very sweet with a nice mix of orange and pineapple flavor.
Lots of other canned drink options.

There are still many menu items to try.  So far the fried chicken wings with tater tots and fries are my fav items here.

  1. That’s good you like the fried chicken wings. The chicken stuffed waffle sounds promising. I love their pulled pork!

    1. I’ll have to try the pork chop next time.
