On the way home from our Yosemite/King’s Canyon road trip I stopped in Chinatown Los Angeles for lunch. While there I figured I’d get a roast duck for dinner.
My mom’s go to spot Lucky Deli was closed so I found Hong Kong Bbq had ducks hanging in the display case. I bought one for $36.

Also I bought a zongzi.
I boiled the zongzi for about 15 minutes in a pot of water to get the rice to the consistency of sticky rice.
Like my mom’s recipe, there were peanuts, Chinese sausage, fatty pork inside. I loved the flavors from the ingredients and the soft rice which was full of flavor from the bamboo leaves.
Roast duck was tender and juicy. Lots of 5 spice powder based flavor. Great tasting duck.

Mom would have loved this place. The zongzi was just like how she made it. Staff was nice and speedy. Happy Mother’s Day.
