Forrest Gump Point

Highway 163  Mile marker 13  Mexican Hat, Utah

Latitude 37 6’ 5.21” N    Longitude 109 59’ 27.15” W

This two lane highway boasts a Forrest Gump point sign and turn outs to park and take in the view.

People really do stand in the middle of the road to take pictures. Seemingly unaware of potential cars coming along. When we visited I actually had to stop because four people were doing just that, standing in the middle of the road. Wow, just wow is all I can say.

If only we all could handle heartbreak like Forrest did. We’d all be better off for it.

We were staying approximately 20 minutes from this spot at The View Cabins. Located on Navajo Tribal land in Monument Valley.

This movie challenges ones misperceptions about the intellectually disabled. Played by Tom Hanks. Forrest guides the viewer thru his life. The up’s and down’s, grief, heartbreak, happiness and success. Forrest makes the chore of emotional navigation seem rather simple. His mother never gives up on him. After Forrest is heartbroken by Jenny he goes running across the country for three and a half years. When he is finally done running, Forrest finds himself at mile marker 13 in Utah, with a pack of his followers and a very long beard.

The cast of Forrest Gump movie includes; Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump), Sally Field (Mrs. Gump), Robin Wright (Jenny), Mykelti Williamson (Bubba Blue), Gary Sinise (Lieutenant Dan) and Haley Joel Osment (Forrest Gump, Jr.).

I highly recommend this movie to anyone who’s never seen it. Emotionally uplifting and powerfully poignant.
