San Diego Trolley Blue line

The long anticipated newest extension of the San Diego Trolley line finally opened November 2021.

They first broke ground on this project in 2015. After years of enduring road widening demolition and wide spread historic tree butchering, another wave began. Wall building and the cement being poured for the enormously large stanchions which would eventually support the impossibly high Trolley platforms.

A few years later the framework for the cement platforms was underway. I kept waiting to see where the artistry would combine with the architects vision. All of that cement begged to be written upon by an artists hand. A beautiful pattern, a visual history of our fine city, an outline of our local people, incorporating plants throughout the structure as I’ve seen done in many buildings, something. I kept waiting.

But alas I was disappointed once again. Function and cost obviously was the most important factor in building this monstrosity. It is ugly, the cement is smoothed over with no adornments or artists hand involved. If you look past this big flaw, they have done their duty and fulfilled the promise of function. To get to a platform one must choose either several flights of stairs or a glass enclosed elevator.

Indeed the blue line is on time and runs impeccably along the entire route. So far it is clean and boasts a beautiful view of the area.
