Superior Soul Food

You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

Time – Pink Floyd

Since Huffman’s Bbq closed I have been on a quest to find a go to soul food spot.  So far Hard Knox Cafe is my favorite.  Superior Soul Food is the latest spot I tried.  You order online, schedule a pickup time, drive-up and they hand you your order over the fence.

Ribeye steak was backyard bbq style.  I liked the flavor which had a hint of sweetness.  Big piece of beef!

Was cool watching one of the owners cook it in the backyard.

7UP pound cake had 7UP and a buttery flavor.  Sadly my slice was day old and the flavors muted.  One side was hard while the rest of the slice was fluffy.  I ate around the hard part.  I imagine this would be a great dessert when fresh.

2nd visit I tried the chicken wings and tenders.  Chicken wings were fried in a crunchy batter.  Chicken was tender and juicy.  I loved the flavor of the batter which had a mix of salt, pepper, and a bit of sweetness.

Chicken tenders were tender and not dry.  The crunchy batter was a bit different from the wings.  Instead of the sweet flavor there was a slight spicy flavor.

I like the old Victorian house Superior Soul Food is located in.  I’m impressed by the delicious fried chicken wings.  I miss eating at restaurants as I could have sent the day old cake to the kitchen.  I did report the issue and was told it wouldn’t happen again.  “Trust but verify”

I miss Huffman’s.  The scent of fried chicken filled the air.  There were old video games to play while waiting for my chicken.  I miss eating at the old formica tables that reflected the history within those walls.
