Sunnyboy Biscuit Company

I like this part of town where Sunnyboy Biscuit Company is located.  Richard Alf one of the founders of Comic Con opened up a shop named Comic Kingdom in 1975.  It was one of the first comic book shops I frequented and the second comic book shop in town.  My mom visited a friend who lived on Park Blvd across the street from where Sunnyboy Biscuit Company is.  I convinced her I needed to stop at Comic Kingdom which was only a few blocks from the bus stop.  I loved those trips as her friend usually had plums and peaches growing on her trees.  My body and mind were well fed.

The last time I was here there was a bbq joint named the The Smok’d Hog here.  I didn’t like the mustard based bbq sauce they used and never returned.  Reading the great Yelp reviews about Sunnyboy Biscuit Company I thought I’d give them a try.
Employees were very friendly here.
I ordered the fried chicken and biscuits.  Fried chicken was breast meat.  Batter was crunchy and nicely seasoned.  Chicken was tender and moist.  Biscuit had some crunchy out bits and had a flavor I liked.  KFC is the main place I have biscuits and in comparison this biscuit had more crunch, a little less dry, and had a nicer flavor.
Apple pie had crunchy bits on top with explosions of sweet cinnamon flavor.  Lots of apple pieces full of apple flavor.  Crust had a buttery shortbread flavor.  Awesome apple pie.
2nd visit.  Cinnamon roll was unique.  Dough had flavor just like the biscuit but softer and with more moisture.  Delicious balance of flavors from the dough, icing, and cinnamon.
Many places drown their cinnamon rolls in icing but Sunnyboy uses just enough to add sweetness but the biscuit flavor is the strongest.
Blackberry lemonade muffin.  Soft.  Fluffy.  Moist.  Bursting with blackberry flavor.  Complimented nicely by the mild sweetness of the muffin dough.
One of the best tasting muffins I’ve had.
Drink options
Tangerine Swell was sweet but not a sugar blast like Orange Crush.  Nice tangerine flavor.
Comic Kingdom was here in the 70’s..

I take a look in the window where the comics were.

Comic Kingdom closed and On Comic Ground replaced it as the neighborhood comic book shop.  In 2018 On Comic Ground closed too.  Looks like comic books are no more in this neighborhood but there are awesome pastries at Sunnyboy Biscuit Company.
