This review includes two sites for Extended Stay America. Mainly because it’s difficult to do this review any other way.

About a week prior to my trip I made online reservations for my room with online Booking at the Phoenix location.

Upon arriving at the Phoenix location, I was told to come back in an hour as I was early for check in. An hour later I waited in the small lobby with my dog for my turn as there was a few people ahead of me. Once it was my turn I explained to the lady at the counter I had made reservations and wanted to check in.

Shortly thereafter I was informed no rooms were available for me. I asked why since I had made reservations. Again she informed me no rooms were available. After explaining I had no place else reserved and to please get the manager she left the desk for a short time. Upon returning she got on the phone apparently looking for another hotel for me.

The hotel Manager explained they had no record of my online Booking reservations and that they were securing a room for me at one of their sister locations close by. I was given a small handwritten note with the address of their sister location and told a room was reserved for me and my dog. Two hours had gone by now.

Mesa location. The bedspread had an unknown stain on it.

Upon arriving at the Mesa location quite a few people were ahead of me. The nice lady at the counter greeted me. After giving her the rundown, she told me they routinely have problems with the Booking site. She helped me cancel my reservations with Booking and made new reservations at their location. An hour later, it was my turn in line and I was able to pay and check in to my room. For some reason she was the only employee at the counter that afternoon.

I wish I could say everything was great after this. I cannot.

Entering my room I noticed numerous things. No smoke detector, no dishes or utensils, both bathroom sink and tub filled with water and draining slow, plus someone had used the shampoo provided and one towel was missing.

If someone had actually showed up to unclog the drain I’d have asked them to scrub the tub clean. It is deeply stained.

Went back to the front desk. They promised to send someone for the drains. Found out If you desire dishes or utensils must ask for them at front desk.

Long story short, nobody ever came to fix the drains after asking about it several times over the course of four days. I was sorely disappointed as I was looking forward to a long bath.

Interestingly enough when I mentioned this upon check out, a different lady at the front desk said she would send someone over right away. Wow that’s a day late and a dollar short I think!

I will not be staying at an Extended Stay America anytime soon. Or using the Booking website to secure reservations.

But hey at least my dog was happy!
