Solvang Farmers Market

I love visiting Farmers Markets.  My neighborhood had a nice farmers market but they kept losing their location and eventually closed.    Lately I’ve been visiting the Hillcrest Farmer’s Market.

While visiting Solvang I was excited to see the Solvang Farmers Market.

There is a very good variety of friendly vendors.

I noticed vendors from Oxnard, Visalia, and Ventura County.

A vendor from Visalia had a type of cherry I had never seen before.  “Brooks” cherries were a cross of Early Burlat which I had never seen before and Ranier cherries.

Solvang Pie Company was selling Apple Walk Arounds which looked like an apple turnover.
Pastry shell was light and flaky with cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top.  Nice mild sweet flavor.  Sweet apple filling was delicious.
Overall this is a very good tasting treat but I’d like more apple filling as the ratio of apple filling to pastry was lower than I like.
Oxnard strawberries were fresh off the fields with a nice aroma and sweet flavor.  Much more flavor than strawberries in the supermarket but Carlsbad strawberries are still my favorites.
Apriums had that unique apricot flavor but sweeter like a ripe plum.  Quite delicious.
Solvang Farmers Market is open every Wednesday 2:30pm – 5:30pm.  I try to visit when I’m in town.  Especially when it’s cherry season.  🙂
