Bright orange peeked through dark clouds as the sun set on Kauai. I remember the delicious flavors of the Wailua Sunrise I ordered at Wailua Shave Ice. So many magical moments.
I don’t know when I’ll have a chance to visit Kauai again. I was excited to discover there is a Wailua Shave Ice in Ocean Beach.
While the Kauai location always had a line of people waiting for treats this one was pretty quiet.
The lone employee was nice and helpful in telling me about the shave ice. I chose a plain mango one.
It was $6.25 and rather small it. I was spoiled in Kauai as $6 would have gotten me a huge shaved ice perfect for sharing.
Shave ice was soft and fluffy. Mango syrup tasted like mango juice and the two little pieces of mango were sweet. Flavors and texture were just as good as the Kauai location but the serving size was smaller.
2nd visit I picked the large Pina Colada for $7. It was good sized and full of delicious pineapple and coconut flavor. The pineapple was from pineapple juice and the coconut was from coconut milk.
3rd visit I tried the Lava Flow. It was pineapple shaved ice with a coconut foam top and pieces of pineapple and strawberry on top. I loved the fluffy shaved ice and the pineapple juice flavor. Fruit was pretty good. Not a big fan of the coconut foam top.
Wailua Shave Ice makes delicious fluffy shaved ice and actual fruit and fruit juices. I would get the large size as it only cost a dollar more. I visit this place when I want a taste of the amazing treats I sampled on Kauai.
