Fred’s Diner
I think I watched all the episodes of The Flintstone’s when I was a kid. It was cool seeing humans and dinosaurs in hilarious adventures. I was surprised to see Fred’s Diner on the way to the Grand Canyon.

Winter Wonderland – Scottsdale
It was Christmas Eve in Scottsdale and we were looking to celebrate the season. A light show sounded good this cold winter night. Music was playing. Bright lights lit up this one block. Hot chocolate and marshmallows were for sale. A castle was the centerpiece. Snow was falling. There was a backyard scene from the “Island of Misfit Toys”. Most amazing winter wonderland I’ve ever seen at a home. This all takes place at Burkett family’s house.

Grand Canyon National Park
There is a sense of age here. Rocks at the bottom are 2000 million years old while the top layer is only 270 million years old. Different layers of the canyon reflect different colors. The effect is lovely.

Bi-Rite Market – 18th Street
One of the first grocery stores I shopped at was just a bit bigger than Bi-Rite. At the time I was just interested in getting 7Up and Hires Root Beer. Bi-Rite is more for gourmet cooks while that old grocery store was more for necessities and alcohol.

Bonchon
I had my first Korean fried chicken experience further down Convoy St. I loved the crunchy batter and delicious flavors of BB.Q Chicken. I was sad when they closed as there were no other options for years. I was excited Bonchon brought their take on Korean fried chicken to Convoy St. I visited during the soft opening.

Birkholm’s Bakery & Cafe
While visiting Solvang I enjoyed going for walks in the morning. The town was quiet and only the bakeries were open. This morning I was captivated by the Danish architecture that housed Birkholm’s.

Solvang Restaurant
I remember each Christmas the colorful twinkling lights, the fresh scent of pine, and presents around the Christmas tree. The days before Christmas I would wonder what was under the festive wraps. All except for one. I knew what was in the round metal container. Every Christmas my mom would buy Danish butter cookies. I liked the buttery flavor and my favorite were the cookies with the big sugar crystals. Till now that was the extent of my experience with Danish food.
