Marie Callendar’s

6950 Alvarado Road La Mesa, CA 92120

Upon entering I was pleasantly surprised to be assaulted by the aroma of freshly baked pies and cookies. Made me want to run back to the kitchen and hang out with the bakers while enjoying the permeating aroma’s wafting from the oven. There is just nothing else like it.

I’ve always loved Marie’s pies! So when we came here for a meal I thought why not get a slice!

After eating my meal nothing could prepare me for the first bite of lemon cream cheese pie. I loved it so much I came back a few days later and bought a whole pie! The first layer was that lemon jiggly goodness. Second layer was the cream cheese lemon party in your mouth. Add in the graham cracker crust and you have lemon pie perfection!

I ordered breakfast omelette with hash browns. The chef had a different take on this traditional dish. The goodies were piled underneath the cover of plain scrambled eggs. It was good but I’d prefer the traditional way.

Driving by on the 8 freeway I’m surprised you can’t smell the pies baking with your windows down. I’ll be back for more pie and maybe breakfast.

  1. That’s good you enjoyed your pie. They are pretty good!

    1. You’ll have to get your next pie here!

  2. I think this is the only Marie Callendar’s restaurant left in the county. I have fond memories of going to Marie’s for dessert after seeing a movie with friends. I wouldn’t have thought to get the lemon cream cheese pie, but that slice looks yummy. My favorites were the strawberry pie when it’s in season; otherwise, it was lemon meringue.

  3. Yes lemon is wonderful in pie. My problem is I love most flavors making it difficult to pick just one. That’s great you have lovely memories here.
