Lappert’s Ice Cream – Scripps Ranch
My first time was in Maui. It was hot even under the shade of a huge banyon tree. I spotted Lappert’s across the street. It was love at first sight. Colors swirled before my eyes. Frozen goodness refreshed me. 15 years later I find myself eating Lappert’s ice cream again.

Rock Bottom Brewery – La Jolla
I’m up with the sun. Been walking to the mall every week to prepare. It’s Black Friday and I gotta get the deals before they are snapped up. I didn’t plan on stopping by Rock Bottom but they have a $50 for a year of burgers deal I cannot resist. It’s gonna cost me less than $1/burger if I visit every week. 🙂 Place is a survivor. It’s been here before I moved to the neighborhood. There use to be an El Torito next door. I tried it a few times but preferred cheap taco shops. Burger with bacon, lettuce, onion strings. Beef had a nice beefy flavor and was…

Urbane Cafe
Convenient location with plenty of parking. Seating also available outside for people with happy dogs. Walking in the smell of fresh focaccia bread dough rising combined with baking bread hit me triggering long cherished memories of helping my Grandmother in the kitchen during my formative years.

Ninini Lighthouse
I love seeing old lighthouses. Being a lighthouse keeper would have been an awesome job if you like being close to nature. We got real close to nature on the way to Ninini Point Lighthouse. After the road ended our poor suv felt like the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland. The mud and huge potholes made for an authentic experience as this was likely how it was back in 1906 when they built the lighthouse out of wood and concrete.

Yelp Elite Week @ Urbane Cafe – Encinitas
Breathe in the smells. Fresh scent of bread excites the senses. Foccia dough is baking and releasing tantalizing scents but I must decide what to order.

Carlsbad Alkaline Water
I tried digging for water when I was a kid. Water coming out of the tap had a nasty taste. Boiling it helped. I gathered all the objects I could find and started digging. It was hard work as the dirt was hard and rocky. About a foot deep I hit clay and couldn’t go any deeper with my screwdrivers and garden spade. Thus ended my quest to find cold refreshing well water. In the time since I have tried many waters.

Sister Pee Wee
I was watching the news and was thrilled to see Sister Pee Wee was being honored with Sister Pee Wee day on October 28 2017 by the Mayor and Larry Himmel Foundation. http://www.cbs8.com/story/36708968/community-gathers-to-celebrate-beloved-soul-food-restaurateur-sister-pee-wee I went to search for more information and found Sister Pee Wee had closed on October 6th. She had a good run for 63 years but her health was failing. I met her for the 1st time in 2014 and reviewed her on Yelp. There is a funny story about that meeting. She was standing in front of me telling me about the menu options and I snapped a photo of her. Since then when I…

Chicago Fire Grill
Thick beef patties were cooking on the flattop. One of those beauties was mine.
