Rudy’s Taco Shop
I see the sea. Scent of sea salt is in the air. I feel the sand beneath my feet. This was one of my fav spots for getting tacos after a drive along the coast with my kid. I remember in the old days this place was mostly a small grocery store with lots of Mexican goods and a small area where you could eat their tacos.

Del Mar Fair 2017
I breathe deep the delicious scents. Turkey legs are being smoked over a wood grill. Sweet scent of cotton candy being spun. Various meat on skewers are smoking. Chicken is pan fried. One of my favorite times of year is when summer starts and the Del Mar fair opens. So much delicious food waiting for me.

They were just starting to wake up and look for food. She opened up a small shelter for all dogs a few years back with her life savings. Finally realizing her lifelong dream. Business was good.

Afters Ice Cream – Pacific Beach
I use to surf at Pacific Beach. Afterwards I’d stop by Mr. Frostie’s for a marshmallow shake. There are a lot more ice cream choices in this area now. I was excited to see Afters Ice Cream open. I visited the Irvine location a few times but the drive and parking kept me from going often. This location 2 blocks from the beach may keep me away due to the summer beach crowd. For now there is ample parking and no line as I lucked out visiting during their soft opening.

Hing Long Oriental Food Market
Back in the old days before San Diego’s first Chinese supermarket(Woo Chee Chong) opened we drove to Los Angeles every few months to stock up on Chinese groceries. We visited small family run markets in Chinatown LA like this one. At the entrance were exotic plants you won’t find at Home Depot. The shelves were full of exotic foods. There was a butcher in the back to cut your meat the way you want. Produce section had a variety of Chinese vegetables.

The Balboa Bar & Grill
It’s dark inside. Reminds me of the old bars I peeked into when I was a kid. They were forbidden and smelled of booze. This place smells of burgers. Wish I knew how to make burgers that smelled this good.
