Mabel’s Gone Fishing

When I was in 1st grade I remember walking past this block on my way to school and back.  There was a Dairy Queen across the street where the taco shop is.  Nice quiet neighborhood back then.  Looks much more popular now.

It took over a month to get reservations at Mabel’s Gone Fishing.  We arrived at opening time and met our friends Lisa and Liang.  Mabel’s is crazy busy and was packed when we left.

Swordfish snitzel featured battered and fried swordfish.  I liked the crunchy batter and the firm and juicy swordfish.  Flavor was on the salty side but I liked the flavor.

Parchment wrapped halibut featured tender and juicy halibut.  Loved the grilled squash which was perfectly cooked and full of fresh squash flavor.  Halibut had some seasoning which gave it a bit of a bitter flavor I didn’t like.

Service was friendly and efficient.  Food was very good quality and tasty.  Congrats to Mabel’s Gone Fishing on being awarded the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand on July 11.  Mabel’s is the only San Diego County restaurant to earn this honor for 2023.  I loved the food at the other Bib Gourmand winner I visited:  Tim Ho Wan.

I like to take photos of beautiful things like rain falling into puddles. Photos were mostly taken on a Fuji XE-2. Starting 9.9.2016 most photos are taken on a Fuji XT-2. Subsequent photos were taken with an Iphone 13 Pro and an Iphone 15 Pro Max.
