Sushiya – Del Mar

I started eating at this mall when Carnitas Snack Shack opened here.  They had some great tasting dishes and it was nice seeing Chef Hanis.  I was sad when they closed.

I started going to Sushiya and tried a bunch of their dishes.

Shrimp tempura had a crunchy batter with shrimp that was tender, melt in your mouth goodness.  I loved the fried shrimp flavor.

Kalbi was tender and juicy.  Loved the kalbi flavor.  I was very impressed by the quality of beef used.  Many places have tough chewy beef but the beef here was high quality.

Gyoza had a delicious mix of pork and cabbage.  Wrapper was soft.  Pretty good dish but I would prefer deep fried with a crunchy shell.

Chicken yakisoba had a good amount of white meat chicken.  I liked the flavor from the sauce and the various vegetables.  Egg noodles had a nice mild flavor.

I liked all the dishes I tried.  So far my favorite dishes are the shrimp tempura and kalbi.  Sadly Sushiya did not survive the apocalypse.  Appears they closed a few months ago.  They have a location in Chula Vista that is still open.

I like to take photos of beautiful things like rain falling into puddles. Photos were mostly taken on a Fuji XE-2. Starting 9.9.2016 most photos are taken on a Fuji XT-2. Subsequent photos were taken with an Iphone 13 Pro and an Iphone 15 Pro Max.

  1. Interesting that the Del Mar location closed but the one in Chula Vista (Otay Ranch) survived. I’d think there would be more foot traffic up north but perhaps there are other reasons. I’ve only been once and enjoyed the food!
