Vons Chicken

Tender.  Juicy.  Fresh aroma.  Thin crunchy batter.  Mild fried flavor.  These wings were made with high quality chicken and I love the thin crunchy batter.  I ordered the lunch special which came with 6 wings, fries, and a drink.  Fries were hot, crispy, and had a nice potato flavor.  I wouldn’t get the fries again as they are just generic fries that you could get at any fast food joint.  The fried chicken wings are what you want here.  The fries just keep you from eating more wings.  Next time I’m just going for a half order of chicken as there are some delicious sounding sides but they only give you the option of fries or rice with the lunch special.

2nd visit I tried the half order of wings and drums with soy garlic sauce.  Chicken was fried perfectly as it was tender and juicy while the batter was thin and crispy.  I liked the soy component of the sauce but I didn’t like the garlic flavor as it left an aftertaste in my mouth.  The drumsticks were good but I prefer the flavor of the wings.

Fried dumplings had a thin crunchy wrapper with a delicious pork and cabbage filling.
So far the plain crispy wings are my favorite item here.  There is a crunchy flavor I want to try next time.

Parking could be a problem when Vons Chicken gets busy.   15 minute parking on the street + 4 spots in the parking lot.

The street parking nearby was mostly full when I visited.

Vons Chicken is located in the corner of a new looking apartment building.

It’s interesting as on the other side of the parking lot are some old houses from the 1950’s.

  1. I wonder if people get them confused with Vons grocery store. The dumplings look super yummy.

    1. I’m sure it happens. The dumplings were great. Next time I’m gonna try the lumpia.

  2. Omg – I also thought this was from Vons supermarket and wondered why the packaging looked so cute! Any idea why they are called Vons?
The wings look good!! Is it worth the drive to NC? I tried Calvin’s some weeks ago and thought meh.

    1. I don’t know why they are call Vons Chicken. They are from South Korea so I’m guessing they translated the name from Korean. The chicken is much better than chicken from Vons Grocery.

Calvin’s is missing my fav flavor the bbq dust so I won’t be going there again till they bring back the bbq dust.

I plan on making a third trip to NC as I want to try the crunchy chicken and the lumpia so I think it’s worth the drive. Vons Chicken is one of my fav spots.
