Calvin’s Korean Hot Chicken

Every few months I went to Poway to visit Furaido to eat fried chicken wings.  Sadly they closed.  I noticed on Yelp Calvin’s Korean Hot Chicken just opened in La Jolla under the same owner.  I went to investigate.  Owner was working the register and recognized me from the old days.

I tried 10 of the original style wings.  It was a bit much for lunch and I just ate 6 of them.  Batter was very crunchy and the chicken was moist.  I enjoyed the mild flavor of the original style.
Sweet potato fries were full of sweet potato flavor.  Great for when you need a break from regular potato fries.
I’m glad Calvin is back in business and adding to the fried chicken choices in town.  I hope Calvin brings back the bbq dust flavor.  It was my favorite from Furaido.

  1. Yay more fried chicken choices!

  2. They are gonna be everywhere like taco shops!

  3. I just visited this place too Soo! And was going to write about it (it’ll be first post in awhile if i do). I didn’t love the chicken but it was fun to try regardless. What did you think of the prices?

    1. Hi Faye! You should write about them too! It’s been too long since your last post.

The prices are comparable to Cross Street(10 wings for $18) and Bonchon(8 wings $13). If you are willing to drive to National City it’s cheaper at Golden Chopsticks where you can get a big plate of wings for $12.
