Mama Toledo’s Pie Hole
I’ve been going on road trips to Arizona for winter vacation. On the last trip I was hoping to try a peach pie at Mama Toledo’s. The website indicated I should order online but online ordering was down when I tried to order. I emailed my request and was told to call in the morning to reserve a pie. I called a few times but nobody picked up the phone. I visited in the afternoon and they had run out of peach pies. Instead I tried a few other pies.

Vons Chicken
Tender. Juicy. Fresh aroma. Thin crunchy batter. Mild fried flavor. These wings were made with high quality chicken and I love the thin crunchy batter. I ordered the lunch special which came with 6 wings, fries, and a drink. Fries were hot, crispy, and had a nice potato flavor. Smokey & the Brisket / 5465 Lake Murray Blvd. La Mesa, CA 91942
So far I’ve been here twice. The first time we just ordered inside and waited in the car until it was done. Second visit we ordered online, much faster and no line! When you arrive all you have to do is go to the pick up counter, your food is bagged and ready then you pay.

Chinese New Year @ Jasmine Express
Chinese New Year celebrations started February 11 Chinese New Year’s Eve and ends February 26th with the Lantern Festival. 2021 is the year of the Ox. In Chinese culture, the Ox is a valued animal. Because of its role in agriculture, positive characteristics, such as being hardworking and honest, are attributed to it. Normally I’d find a restaurant sponsoring a Lion Dance or go downtown where they had a weekend festival. This year I went to Jasmine Express for takeout.

Home Sweet Home Cafe
I remember visiting The Sun Cafe when I was able to walk. Working people filled the booths and counter. There was the sense of history inside. The cafe first opened in 1925. My parents’ friends the Jeong family took it over in 1962. They let us look around the kitchen and offered us a meal whenever my parents had time to visit. I loved visiting and eating cafe food. Sadly The Sun Cafe closed in 2008 as the family retired. There aren’t many of these old cafes left. Luckily Maggie found Home Sweet Home Cafe. When I was a kid I loved going shopping with my mom. We walked everywhere and…

For me it’s a labor of love to care for my plant babies. A lot of my time is spent with them, they reciprocate by blooming beautifully and providing me shade.

Valentines Day @ Costco 2021
Each year I look forward to going to Costco for Valentines Day. Each year I see ladies behind the plastic partition dipping fresh strawberries in chocolate. Mix of flavors from the fresh strawberries and chocolate was heavenly.
