Tony’s Jacal

Tony’s Jacal Restaurant was started in 1946 by the Gonzalez family in Eden Gardens.

Eden Gardens was founded in the 1920’s by Mexican farmers working for the owners of ranches in Rancho Santa Fe.

I walked through the patio and was impressed by the lush vegetation.

The gardener here is excellent.

Chips were warm and a little greasy.  Nice fresh flavor.
I split an order of 4 taquitos with my lunch buddy from work.  My 2 tacquitos appeared to be a taquito cut in half.  I liked the crunchy shell and the meat to tortilla ratio.  Beef did not have much flavor.  Noticed the receipt listed these as mini taquitos 4 for $6.20.  When craving taquitos I’m gonna keep going to El Indio where full sized taquitos are $1.
Still hungry I ordered 2 carne asada tacos for $8.  They appeared street taco sized.  Tortillas had a mild corn flavor while the beef was tender and had a mild beef flavor.
Tony’s Jacal looks really nice and the service was very good but I when craving tacos I prefer the beef marinated like at El Indio.
