Black Bear Diner / 1025 Fletcher Parkway El Cajon, CA 92020

Drove here for my birthday breakfast! When you join their Bear Lovers e-club each year you receive a free breakfast! So wonderful since I really love this place!

Cute outside planter

They have two new menu additions that include: Family meals to go and beverages to share. Gonna have to try it out soon. Currently as of August 2020 they are open for delivery, carryout, curbside pickup and outdoor dining. We chose carryout.

Breakfast with French toast, eggs over easy, sausage and bacon, yummy!

Butter and syrup added, even better!

Although quite a few people were waiting outside when we arrived it did not take very long after ordering inside. Probably about 20 to 25 minutes. Totally worth the wait in my book.

I’m just really happy to see this restaurant doing so well and filled with people who love their food.

Cool to go lid

I’ve previously written about this place on August 30th 2019. For some reason it did not get posted here silly me. So without further ado here it is.

The name does not disappoint. Everything and I mean everything is decorated with the black bear theme. They even sell their own sauces, ketchup and coffee. They have a unique partnership called Bears Brew Back that directly benefits the people of Nicaragua who brew the coffee they sell. For more information go here.

I’ve eaten here twice now and I’m looking forward to trying out more menu items especially the breakfast menu. My favorite meal of the day.

Chicken and waffle with fruit

With syrup and butter. Notice the cute bear claw print.

The chicken and waffle sounded good on my first visit so I ordered it. The waffle was a bit dry and not very sweet. The chicken was seasoned nicely and also a bit dry. I put butter and syrup on the waffle but it did not help much. In hindsight I think if I ordered a side of their tasty chicken gravy, it would have made this dish super delicious.

Chicken pot pie, such a pretty crust.

Chicken pot pie with broccoli and carrots.

First bite.

Second visit I ordered Micky’s chicken pot pie. The gravy had great depth of flavor and the combination of peas, carrots and mushrooms along with the delicately layered crust with a hint of butter sent it over the top. The chicken was seasoned nicely and very juicy. The vegetables I got on the side (broccoli and carrots) were steamed and seasoned well.

Iced tea.

When you walk in they have a small gift shop with all things bear related of course. The desserts look amazing and I’m sure I will try one eventually. This place has a unique charm paired with friendly servers and good food. I’ll be back.

They make their own ketchup

Pepper Sauces also made by them. Such cute names.

I admire the detail in these wood carvings.

Wonder how long it takes to carve this bear?

  1. Yes I do love their chicken pot pie! Gonna have to try out one of their family meals….perhaps the fried chicken or roasted turkey would work.
