Gelato Vero Caffe

Times Like These – Foo Fighters

I loved visiting Gelato Vero Caffe back in my college days.  the darkroom group did road trips to buy photo supplies at Nelson Photo and stopped here or at El Indio for lunch/dinner/dessert.  The trips to Gelato Vero became more infrequent as the line got longer out the door and parking was harder to find.

With the apocalypse there is no line and parking is plentiful.

Gelato packed in foil bag.

Quart of coconut + vanilla.

I visited again to see if the gelato is as good as in the old days.

Coconut was creamy with a rich coconut flavor.  Vanilla was creamy with a rich vanilla flavor with lots of little flecks of vanilla bean.
Cookies and cream was rich with lots of cookies.  Loved the mix of cookies and vanilla flavor.
Strawberry was full of sweet strawberry flavor with bits of frozen strawberries adding additional fruity flavor.
Pistachio was rich, creamy, and full of nutty pistachio flavor.  Lots of pistachio pieces to give bursts of pistachio flavor.
They also sell pastries from Bread & Cie.
I tried an apple turnover.  Loved the mix of flavors from the buttery pastry, sweetness from the sugar crystals, and the apple filling.
In times like these it’s awesome finding local shops like Gelato Vero Caffe still open.  Gelato is rich, creamy and full of flavor as in the old days.  It’s only $13.50 per quart and they can put multiple flavors in the container.
Staff was nice and made my quarts of ice cream quickly.
