Gaya Gaya

Furniture looks the same.
I have visited this spot when it was a South African restaurant Cape Town and when it became Sarap Filipino restaurant.

Now Gaya Gaya occupies the space.
Lechon kawali was $14 for what looked like an appetizer sized portion.  Skin was crispy, lots of mushy fat, and some juicy meat hiding beneath it.  I loved the flavors.

I ordered the pancit canton but instead got the bihon style.  I liked the noodles but I after I few bites I gave the rest to Maggie as I hate vinegar and this dish had a strong vinegar flavor.  Also there was a $5 upcharge for pork but there was only a small amount of pork in the dish.

I took a bite of adobo empanada.  Liked the crunchy shell and didn’t like the flavor of the mushroom filling.  I like good quality mushrooms with a steak but this dish had too much of an earthy flavor.
Chef DJ Tangalin cooks up awesome lechon kawali but the other dishes are a bit too fancy for my taste.  I prefer spots where the food is more like you would get at your Filipino friend’s house.  I’ll be hitting Manilla Fast Food next time I’m craving pancit.
Kirk of mmm-yoso has visited too.

  1. Wonder if they will stick around? Kinda sad it’s had such a high business turnover. I did wish the pancit had more meat in it. Other than that is was yummy.

    1. They will need to get more people in. The place is too big for the current customer base. Also the “serves 2-4 people” would be more accurate if it stated 1 hungry person.

  2. Thanks for the link Soo!

    1. You are welcome Kirk!
