Sidecar Doughnuts / Del Mar Highlands Town Center 3435 Del Mar Heights Rd. Suite D7 San Diego, CA 92130

Handmade fresh every hour is just a phenomenal concept. Fresh doughnuts taste best and knowing they provide them each and everyday no matter what time you come in makes my sweet tooth dance away. Needless to say I was eagerly anticipating my first visit.

Cute figures inside the box

Sidecar’s mission is to source all their ingredients from the earth, a noble endeavor. They also offer a 10% proceeds donation to a selected charity based on the monthly featured Sidecares doughnut. All you have to do is purchase the monthly selected flavor Sidecare doughnut to participate.

Upon walking in I noticed the u-shaped counter and the clear looking glass in the back for viewing the baking and frosting process. It’s fun to watch them cut out the dough and frost the finished product.

Apple fritter. Normally it’s hard to find a fritter that is not super greasy or partially overcooked. This one is one of the best I’ve ever had. Full of flavor with no greasy fingers!

My favorite doughnut so far is the apple fritter. Note it’s served only on Friday’s. Also looking forward to trying the strawberries & cream and the addition of new monthly flavors. I missed out on the basil eggs Benedict doughnut since they are super popular. Think I need to come perhaps right when they open at 6:30 AM.

Raspberry balsamic. The flavor of the actual raspberry on top continued throughout the entire doughnut, very impressive. I’d eat a whole bunch of these.

Valentines cake. Inside was a cake like texture with more colorful confetti pieces. Lovely flavor all around.

Other stand outs include; huckleberry, Saigon cinnamon crumb, raspberry balsamic and Valentines cake. The dough consistency is different for each flavor. Some being more cake like in texture, others more classic doughnut. Plus they craft each doughnut with layers of flavor not loading up super heavy on the sugar aspect which I appreciate.

Huckleberry in front, Saigon cinnamon crumb directly across. True huckleberry flavor was present and very pleasing. Loved the distinct Saigon cinnamon shining through with cake like texture.

The only flavor I really had a difficult time liking was the red wine chocolate. Just too bitter for me as I’m not a big fan of dark chocolate. Tend to prefer milk chocolate. So I’m sure this one will be a hit with dark chocolate fans.

The chai coffee is the only drink I’ve tried out so far and it’s very delicious and goes well with doughnuts of course.

From left to right; Saigon cinnamon crumb, butter & salt, butterscotch crunch. Far left back to right; maple bacon, huckleberry and vanilla ring.

In case you want to see what the inside looks like.

As always Danny did a wonderful job putting this event together, thanks for being such a great North County YCM.
