TJ Tacos

It was back in my college days I had my first TJ taco in Tijuana.  An old lady had a cart on the sidewalk.  Juicy meat leaked juices onto the little corn tortillas.  They were small, cheap and delicious.  It’s been a long time since I had a TJ taco so I was excited when my yelper friend Lisa G. suggested we visit TJ Tacos.

So many tacos to choose from here.  I try ones I think I’ll like.
Adobada had a bit of sweetness and a little bit of spiciness.  Mix of flavors is delicious and the meat is very tender and juicy.  My fav taco here.
Carne asada taco had nice beefy flavor and the meat was tender.  My 2nd fav taco.
Beef shoulder was cooking in the same pot at the pork and I am not a big fan of the spices used in the marinade.
Pork & beef shoulder cooking.

Buche/pork taco was marinated too much and very salty.  My least favorite taco.

This place looks and feels like Tacos El Gordo.  Both have separate lines for the various tacos and the adobada tacos have similar flavors.  🙂  Both have delicious interpretations of those long ago tacos I had in Tijuana.  Thanks Lisa for bringing me here.  This small town is very different from the busy Mexican city I had my first TJ taco.  There is a relaxed pace to life here and parking is plentiful.  🙂

  1. Love your story about Tijuana. Great pictures of the food, behind the counter, outside, so professional looking. My favorite is the Adobada too. ?

    1. Thanks! It’s a great taco shop. 🙂

  2. What part of meat is used in the Buche/pork taco? It looks mostly pork skin or intestines?
That’s an impressive shot of the adobada spit. I always worry about meats getting dried out when roasting using that method.

  3. I think it was intestines. I don’t like intestines or skin.

Thanks! The adobada was pretty juicy. The carne asada was the least juicy of all the tacos I tried.
