Bon Temps Creole Cafe / San Luis Obispo

There is a sense of history in this area.

As I neared Bon Temps Creole Cafe I notice an old rusty bridge across the street.

A few pedestrians and cyclists were using it to safely cross over the train tracks.

View of Amtrack station from the bridge.

A plaque stated the Osos-Jennifer Street Bridge was dedicated in 1998.

In the middle of the roundabout I noticed a statue.

It was a tribute to the Chinese railroad workers who helped build the railroads.

An old historical building housed Bon Temps.

Inside I felt like I had been transported to New Orleans.

Old jazz tunes played in the background.

Old black and white photos of jazz musicians lined a row of booths.

Lots of choices on the menu and it had been awhile since I had trout so I went with the blackened trout prepared not too spicy.  First out was the corn bread.  It was fresh, fluffy, and had a nice corn flavor.
Next I found the fries to be crunchy and full of potato flavor.  Lastly I tried the trout.  It was half of a trout with the bones removed.  Seasoning was mild and the flavor of the trout really came through.  Next time I’m gonna try the regular preparation as I’m curious as to how it taste when spicy.
2nd visit I tried the fried catfish with fried green tomatoes.  Combination of bread crumb batter and green tomatoes was a little spicy.
I like this dish but would prefer onion rings or potato chips.
Fried catfish came in thin strips coated in cornmeal.  I liked the combination of flavors from the catfish and fried cornmeal.
I love the ambiance here and the staff was very friendly and informative.  The chef here is skilled and I want to try more of the menu next time I’m in town.
