Mirror mirror on the wall who’s the fairest of them all? I think of this rhyme as I stroll leisurely through this garden. It’s impossible to pick the fairest flower, tree, shrub, fruit, vegetable, rock formation, bird, insect or lizard. Such an overabundance of visual happiness!

In 1957 Ruth Larabee donated 26.5 acres of land to the County of San Diego. Later on in 1970 it became Quail Park Botanical Gardens and now is San Diego Botanic Garden.

Would have loved to stay longer or come back a second day during our visit. So much to do with such little time.

The butterfly exhibit was open on our second visit in March. Too many butterflies to count! They flocked around the misters, landed on the flowers, foliage, people and netting. If you stay still enough they will come visit, perhaps on your shoulder or hat.

A lovely place to stop and enjoy the scenery along highway 79. I never get tired of strolling amoung the sculptures imagining what would happen if suddenly they became alive. And of course what would they look like in my front yard?
