Luna Grill – Mira Mesa

Once again this is a collaborative post including both writers. This first portion is written by myself, Maggie.

Seating area

One of the many things I adore about Luna Grill is the fresh made variety of dipping options. It’s part of the fun to dip each bite of my chicken, pita or vegetable into a different sauce.

Diet Coke. The blueberry açaí drink is super tasty too. Plus it’s bright pink.

Dip trio. Garlic Sauce right, Spicy Feta middle, Organic Original Hummus left.

The garlic sauce was a pleasant surprise of well balanced garlic creaminess. The spicy feta paired well with the chicken and vegetables. The hummus just goes with everything I think.

Can’t decide which sauce is my favorite, they each have their own unique appeal and of course go with everything.

Ceiling fixture.

Chicken kabob with salad, rice, pita and creamy dipping sauce.

I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken seasoning!

The roasted tomato just melted in my mouth with intense flavor.

Chandlier with wall art.

Carrot cake cookie sandwich with cream cheese filling is super moist with lovely carrot and cream cheese flavor. This bite size portion is just perfect after a meal. The Dark chocolate souffle cookie sandwich looks inviting. I’ll have to try it out next visit.
Baklava. So light flaky, semi sweet with just the right amount of nuts. I could eat a dozen!

Everyone that works here is very helpful, pleasant and friendly. I’m looking forward to many more lunch visits!

Mira Mesa High School

I went to high school across the street.  The food choices weren’t that good back then.  I remember a Sizzler in this spot.  I visited it once but it wasn’t good enough to visit a 2nd time.  I wasn’t surprised it closed.

Luna Grill looks new and shiny.

Fries had a nice crunch and delicious fried flavor.  I really appreciate the lack of an aftertaste.  Manager told me they used sunflower oil to fry.  I’m gonna have to give it a try.  Pita was served warm.  Fluffy with delicious flavor a bit like a flour tortilla.  I enjoy eating these plain.  Flat cut chicken kabob was tender, juicy, and well marinated in Mediterranean spices.  Flavor was bold.
Game hen on the bone was prepared the same way as the chicken.  I liked the game hen flavor a bit more than the milder chicken flavor.  Hen was tender and juicy.
Mandarin Lime Blue Sky soda tasted a bit like 7Up without the lemon component.  I like it a lot.  Orange Mango was a close second.
Watching them cook.
Dessert + fancy drink choices.
Service was speedy and the employees were nice.  I have a feeling Luna Grill is going to last longer than The Sizzler did.  We were invited to try the new flat cut chicken dish by Luna Grill.  I came back to try the Game Hen dish on my own dime.

I use a combination of my iPhone and my Fujifilm X-E2 camera for all my photographs. Just depends on where I am as to which one I'll use to take my pictures with. I love to write original stories combined with my photographs. If you'd like to send me a message or comment, please do so at; maggie@hungryones.com We just celebrated our 14th Anniversary this October 2016!! So exciting!! 2015 A couple since 2003 and now on the precipice of this new journey, our fondest hope is this website serves a purpose. One of useful information presented in an elegant, beautiful photographic setting. Together we love to discover new restaurants, food trucks, diners, café’s, huts or where ever we find food being served. The love of artful, carefully crafted, passionately orchestrated food, beverages and let’s not forget desert, Is something we both enjoy immensely. Immersing ourselves in the history, culture and surrounding locations of our adventures hopefully leads to not only meeting new people, but making new friends, sharing ideas, listening to stories and learning something new everyday. 1. I thought Sizzler was in the building that is now iHop? The Luna Grill/Starbucks building is new construction. Anyway, I enjoy the food at Luna Grill, although I haven’t been to the Mira Mesa location.

    1. We’ve been to both the Mira Mesa location and Clairemont. I think they are both equally delicious! The Cornish hen is definitely worth a try, especially with all the dipping sauces. Not sure the exact former location of the closed Sizzler, the iHop looks super new.
