Eastern Dynasty

Exciting to see a new Chinese restaurant in the same mall as where China Max was.  I noticed they have bbq pork here and tried to order bbq pork pan fried noodles but the waiter would only let me order what was on the menu.

I tried the beef pan fried noodles.  Crispy egg noodles had a mild egg flavor.  Brown sauce gave this dish a nice savory flavor.  Beef was tender and had a fresh beef flavor.  Very similar to other Cantonese restaurants in the area except you can get bbq pork pan fried noodles at Sam Woo, Imperial Mandarin and a few other places.
2nd visit I tried the chicken fried rice and the roast duck.  Duck skin was crispy and full of 5 spice powder based flavor.  Flavor soaked into the tender meat and made for a delicious dish.  Similar to Noble Chef’s duck.
Chicken fried rice had a delicious smoky flavor from the wok.  Chicken was tender and nicely seasoned.  Great tasting dish except I would have liked more chicken to go with the rice.
3rd visit I tried the won ton noodle soup.  I liked the texture of the noodles which had a little snap to them.  Flavor was very mild.  Bok choy was crisp and fresh.
Won tons which were a mixture of pork and shrimp were bursting with flavor.  I loved the won tons but I may order this dish without the noodles next time.
4th visit I tried the lobster with ginger scallion sauce and the bbq pork fried rice.  I enjoyed the light seasoning and the smoky wok flavor of the rice.  Bbq pork was tender and full of flavor.  Wish there was more bbq pork in this dish as the ratio of bbq pork to rice is not that good.  Shanghai Cafe is my favorite spot for this dish as they have an excellent bbq pork to rice ratio.
Lobster was tender and full of flavor.  Loved the ginger scallion sauce.  This is one of my favorite preparations of lobster.

Green tea had a nice mild flavor.

I noticed they use tea bags from Costco.

Eastern Dynasty is now one of my favorite spots to get roast duck.  Service was nice and speedy.

  1. That’s great you found a new favorite spot!

    1. Yes the chef has skills!

  2. I’m so happy you did a post on this as family and I want to try out this restaurant. I read the wait times were crazy (I tried to go around 1130a alone one weekday and couldn’t find one single parking space even on street). What did you think of the prices? I recently went the Phuong Trang and had their wonton soup – not bad. Could you order the ginger lobster without the noodles?

    1. I went at 11am and there was lots of parking. The prices are high. Go to Golden Chopsticks for a better deal. They should be open in Mira Mesa soon. I’ll have to try the won ton soup at Phuong Trang. I’m pretty sure you can tell them no noodles.

  3. The duck here is calling my name. Last time eating duck nearby (at Jasmine) was not great so I am in need of a much-improved redo!

    1. Get some Joy! I’ve had it twice now. 🙂

  4. We really weren’t impressed with Eastern Dynasty Soo. Glad you enjoy the place.

  5. I loved the duck Kirk. 🙂
