Swagyu – Pacific Beach

I visited Pacific Beach alot in my college days.  I remember gliding across the surface of the sea on my surfboard hoping it would never end.  I remember the sting of the freezing water as I fell into the sea.  My friends liked surfing near the pier.  Afterwards I liked stopping by Mr. Frostie’s for a marshmallow shake.  That frozen concoction would numb my insides to match the frozen outside.  There  are many more food choices now.

I visited Swagyu to try their kobe burger.

You can get it with cheese and pickle but all I wanted was the beef and bun.

You get 2 thin patties of kobe beef.

There was a nice char which made the edges crispy.  Beef was full of delicious beef flavor.  I was impressed as the beef was the most flavorful I’ve ever eaten in a burger.  Well worth the $18.

2nd visit I try their kobe burger with nitro fries.  It seems they freeze the fries in liquid nitrogen before frying in canola oil.  This results in a thin crunchy outer layer while the inside was all fluffy.  I liked the fried potato flavor alot.  The seasoning that was sprinkled on top made them even tastier.  Tasted like a mixture of salt with trace amounts of paprika.

Burger had a rich flavor from the kobe beef while the mild flavored bun added a fresh bread flavor.

Employees were nice and efficient.

I was surprised I was able to get a parking spot within a block each visit as Swagyu is 4 blocks from the beach and it’s summer.  Swagyu cooks up great tasting burgers and fries.

I like to take photos of beautiful things like rain falling into puddles. Photos were mostly taken on a Fuji XE-2. Starting 9.9.2016 most photos are taken on a Fuji XT-2. Subsequent photos were taken with an Iphone 13 Pro and an Iphone 15 Pro Max.

The fries look amazing! That’s wonderful to know the Tajima cattle are raised outside surrounded by grass and natural streams.

Not sure I’ve had wagyu beef yet, but this seems like a good place to try it. It usually goes for 10 million dollars in fancy, expensive steakhouses that I really don’t frequent. To have it in a burger, tasting only of itself and the soft bread, surrounded by a casual environment is more my speed!

Joy you can get your burger to go and take a walk to the beach and enjoy the sunset. If you decide you like wagyu beef you can take some home and cook it yourself.
