Honda HR-V Year 2

Near Dome Valley

So far our 2019 Honda HR-V Sport has been rock solid.  The only bug I’ve had is with the Apple Carplay and that was solved by restoring the system as outlined in HR-V Year 1 review.  Gas mileage is not bad at 30mpg.

Near Santa Barbara
Over the years we have driven in a wide range of conditions.
This summer it got up to 105F outside but inside the HR-V was comfortable with the AC on and Spectra Photosync window tint on all the windows.  The tint did an excellent job keeping the inside from heating up too much by rejecting 70% of the sun’s heat.  Insulation is better than my 2006 Civic as when it was over 100F outside you could feel the heat coming through the roof and doors.  As soon as I exited the car the blazing sun made me feel like I was in an oven.  HR-V is also quieter.
Last winter we visited Pinetop for Christmas and drove in snowy conditions.  With the OEM tires the traction wasn’t great and snow chains would have been nice.  Also after being left snow covered overnight the rear defroster wasn’t able to defrost the rear window in the morning.  I had it checked out at the dealer and was told the defroster was working to factory specifications.
Santa Ynez Mountains
We have driven up various mountains and found the acceleration to be adequate.  The HR-V is Honda’s slowest suv and it’s lowest priced.  I love the amount of storage space in the HR-V.
We have been going on road trips with my 70 quart Yeti cooler and there is still enough room to fit our luggage.  This is the best vehicle I’ve ever had for going on road trips.  Apple Carplay has been extremely helpful with finding all our destinations and it warns you of speed traps.  Trailer hitch/bike rack worked great for taking my bike places.
This is my first suv and I love the higher riding position.  My back was tiring of having to plop down into my old Civic.  The seats are also more comfortable as my butt would hurt on long road trips in the Civic.
Trailer hitch for attaching bike rack.

I typically buy a car every 10 years or so and modify it to suit my needs.  The HR-V has been the most useful and comfortable car I’ve owned.  In another 8 years when I’m in the market for my next car I’d want one much like the HR-V but electric.

  1. Great pictures! This Honda has performed well every time I’ve driven it. It is more comfortable than the 2006 Civic Hybrid for sure.

    1. Thanks! The HR-V has been doing a great job!
