Tu Taco Taco Shop
I venture out to the southern edge of the country in search of tacos. I remember my mom use to visit one of her friends out here. It was quiet and there was lots of open space. Now it’s quiet and there is abundant parking in this strip mall. This is another of our joint posts. Please be kind and include both writers in your comments. First portion written by Soo.

Lotus Gallery of Fine Art
Turtles. She loves turtles. So far I had been unsuccessful finding Maggie a birthday present. I had a good feeling about this place. Maggie had just viewed a ton of lovely local birds at the nearby Kilauea Lighthouse. There was calming feel to the Kong Lung shopping center. I spotted a lovely fountain and listened to the soothing sound of running water. Next to the fountain was the Lotus Gallery of Fine Art.

Bentley’s Steak & Chop House
Bentley’s is in the good part of town. Rancho Santa Fe. Restaurant Week is when we venture out to fine dining establishments without blowing my paycheck. Bentley’s is one of those places with nice tablecloths where you aren’t required to dress up but you might be out of place if you don’t.

Taste of Downtown San Diego
Joint post, first portion written by Soo. Downtown. This neighborhood has the highest concentration of places to eat at various price points in town. I was excited when Mcfarlane Promotions invited us to their Taste of Downtown event. I was prepared to power walk through downtown. Restaurants were mostly clustered around the Gaslamp District but some were quite a few blocks out of the way. I was pleasantly surprised there was a free shuttle. It was awesome riding in style through downtown. There were 40 stops but I just made it to these. Florent had tender delicious beef. Looked like it was perfect for adding to a beef stew…

Mark’s Place
Rain is falling down hard. I was hoping to eat here but the only seating is the wet patio tables outside. We get our food to go. I ordered the special with teriyaki beef, chicken katsu, and beef stew. The order came with rice with was fresh and moist with a light flavor. Chow mein came with it too which was not seasoned well. Kinda like Panda Express noodles. Beef teriyaki was tender and had delicious teriyaki flavor. Chicken katsu had a mix of chicken and fried batter flavor. Beef stew was full of delicious flavor from the fresh ingredients. Beef was tender and had a rich beef flavor. Carrots…

Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge & Lighthouse
Be careful when you enter here, as losing track of time happens instantly. Once you start gazing at the plethora of birds you get pulled into their world and become free as they are. No pesky gravity keeping you on the ground. Just flying and floating as they do all day. No wonder the Laysan albatros go for years at a time without ever touching the ground. Smart bird.

Jack Harter Helicopter Tour Kauai
My feet leave the ground. Rising into the air. Clouds are close enough to touch. Ground is far away now. Birds are flying below me. Wind is blowing so hard I can barely see. I have dreamed of flying since I was a kid and I read my first Superman comic. Now. Flying over Kauai in a no doors helicopter operated by Jack Harter Helicopter Tours I am living my dream. Holding my camera outside the helicopter my hand is buffeted by 100mph winds and shaking badly. View is crystal clear without any glass of plastic in the way. We start heading up the coast past the Nanini Lighthouse. …
