San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden / Part three of three

Metal sculpture

Four separate areas are designated as follows; Display garden, Children’s garden, Discovery hike and Fire safe demonstration garden.

Kangaroo paw

The Fire safe demonstration garden teaches you how to implement the 100 feet of defensible space required in California to help defend your home from fires. What I really like is the list of fire resistant plants.

Fire Safe Demonstation Garden

For Nancy

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops—at all

And sweetest—in the Gale is heard
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm

I’ve heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest Sea
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb—of Me.

Emily Dickinson

Children’s Garden

The Display garden features five mediterranean climate regions including; California, Central Chile, Capetown South Africa, Western and South Australia and the Mediterranean Sea.

Display Garden

The Discovery hike is a mile long showcasing local animals, flowers, volcanoes, and lovely views.

Check out part one and part two! Hope you enjoyed all of these unique well cared for plants, trees and sculpture.

  1. Great photos of all the plants! You should add a photo of Nancy! That was a cool tribute for her.

    1. That’s a great idea! I’ll have to look in my collection to search for the best one. Yes she was just a beautiful person spreading sunshine to all who knew her. She will be missed.
