Yelp Elite Week at The Hake

the-hake-4552_1the-hake-4544La Jolla.  I learned to surf by Scripps Pier.  I paddled out on a foam board and was told not to go underneath it.  You can see the lights on the pier.  In high school I spent many summers exploring the tide pools and taking photos.  Soft golden light was perfect to accent a personal’s features as the sun disappeared into the sea.  I’ve watched so many sunsets in La Jolla.  It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve found in San Diego.

the-hake-4548The Hake has a bunch of tables with an up close view of La Jolla Cove.  After looking down at the spots I use to hang out I picked out some small plates.

the-hake-4535Shrimp and pork tamale looked a little like zongzi my mom use to make.  The big difference is the tamale is corn based while zongzi is based on sticky rice.  Flavor was much like corn tortilla with pork filling.  Didn’t notice the shrimp.

the-hake-4537Braised lobster tail had a nice char from the broiler.  I liked the crispness some of the lobster had.  Nice mix of flavors from the fresh lobster and the spices.  This is the spiciest preparation I’ve had.

the-hake-4542Naan bread dessert looked a bit like a churro with the cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top.  I’ve always enjoyed traditional naan bread with it’s light flavor but this fried naan bread is the best!  Flavor is a cross between traditional naan bread and a sweet crunchy churro.  Sauces were a delicious complement to the somewhat sweet fried naan bread.

Cool sink!

Food, view, and service was exquisite.  Awesome place for a date.  Hope my date didn’t notice the tab was comped thanks to Brad B/Yelp and the management at The Hake.

  1. Beautiful food, exceptional company. Don’t worry honey I didn’t notice!

    1. Good! I’m glad you had fun!

  2. I liked the cove photos! I enjoyed the food here before the renovated. I hope to come back and maybe do a date night here too. That was an excellent tamale comparison to a zongzi. I don’t like tamales but your description makes me want to try the version here at Hake. How was parking?

    1. Thanks! When you go on your date note that sunset is at 5pm so make sure you ask for the window table.

I gotta find a good place to get zongzi. I prefer them to tamales. I found a spot 3 blocks away. If you can’t find a spot there is a parking structure near Duke’s.
