Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar

Cows graze in the day
By the side of old highways
Now in steakhouses.

flemings.5313Flemings.  My fav spot to get a steak in my neighborhood.

flemings3778I’ve been coming here for years for the wet aged filet mignon.  So tender you think it will melt in your mouth.  Minimally seasoned with salt and pepper the flavor of the meat comes through strong.  Recently I decided I want to try some of the ribeye steaks.

flemings.7048Wet aged prime ribeye cooked medium was tender and juicy.  Beef had delicious flavor with an assist from the salt and pepper.  There was a real nice crust from the pepper on this steak.

flemings.7464Dry aged prime ribeye was a bit more expensive than the wet aged ribeye.  Ordered medium it was tender and juicy.  Best steak I have ever had here.  Dry aging process made the steak close to melt in your mouth tender and had richer flavors than that of the wet aged ribeye steak.  Less pepper flavor and more beef flavor.

flemings.7049Tempura lobster had a crunchy batter and delicious fried lobster.  Would have been heavenly if they had a thinner tempura batter like that used on the tempura shrimp at Ki Sushi.

flemings.7467Creme brûlée had a sweet crunchy top crust.  Vanilla custard underneath had a sweet vanilla flavor.  Tied for best creme brûlée I have had in San Diego with Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.

flemings3776This is also the only place I know of where I can get Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.  There is a rich french vanilla flavor a bit like Dreyer’s only richer and denser.  I get one bowl to start my meal instead of salad and another bowl for dessert.  🙂

flemings.7044Our booth was very cushy and the service was excellent.  Park at the Hyatt and you get free validation.  I hear they are going to have a 22oz Tomahawk ribeye steak for Father’s Day.  So tempting…

Love the Haiku! Sounds like an awesome idea for Father’s Day!
Beautiful shadows and light in the creme brulee picture!

    1. Thanks! I like finding lovely shadows and light.

  2. It’s been ages since I’ve been to Flemings. Do they top their steaks with butter? I hear many debates about wet vs dry ages steaks. I had a tomahawk steak at Ruth Chris over Christmas and it was totally over rated (and over priced!). The steak ended up being tiny once you took the bone off 🙁

The tempura lobster looks impressive (never seen it tempura deep fried WITH it’s shell) but agree that the batter looks thick. Glad you like this steakhouse –

    1. They do top their steaks with butter! So far I prefer dry aged steak. Wet aged is a close second though.

That’s sad the tomahawk steak wasn’t that good as it looked awesome in the photo.

Tempura lobster is very good but my fav is still the ginger lobster at Pearl. 🙂

  3. We just went to Flemmings not long ago and they were a little off their game that night. We had been going the previous 3 or 4 years and always loved it. Ruth’s Chris seems to have taken the top spot for now. We usually get $50 AMEX credit to use and had a gift card so it was a double whammy! Your steaks seemed to turned out how I remembered them before.

    1. I love Ruth Chris too! I like the bread better there. I like the steaks equally though. I’ve been getting AMEX deals at Flemings so I’ve been going more. 🙂

  4. hmm are these amex deals going to Costco members also? now I kinda want a steak. and ice cream before and after my meals haha. I like some of their happy hour menu though. need to go back with Dennis…

    1. I either get an email from Flemings or a postcard from AMEX. 🙂 Go for it Lynn! You work hard and deserve a steak!
