Bourré Southern Bistro

“Songs remain. They last…A song can last long after the events and the people in it are dust and dreams and gone. That’s the power of songs.”
Neil Gaiman – Anansi Boys

bourre.1716This place was Stockdale’s Fine Southern Cuisine. Come on the right night and you could listen to the blues or lounge tunes. Owner was a refined southern gentleman and an excellent host. It’s nice to see that excellent hospitality continues on. Piano waits in the corner to play old songs.

bourre.1712I tried the fried catfish with cajun fries. Fresh catfish had deep rich flavor nicely scented by the cornmeal batter. Cajun fries had delicious mis of potato and seasoning salt flavor. I had a bite of the fried chicken. The seasoning and batter was delicious. Wish I could order dark meat fried chicken.

bourre.1706It’s nice this location remains an excellent spot to get my fix of southern cuisine.

Love the Neil Gaiman quote. So true the power of songs…

  2. And before Stockdale’s it was Papa Doc’s……noticed this place the last time I was in the area.

    1. Doh! I don’t go down there much. I missed Papa Doc’s. I found your review. http://mmm-yoso.typepad.com/mmmyoso/2005/08/papa_docs_resta.html
Sounded like a good place. Too bad it went out of business.

  3. What songs did the play on the piano ? I’ve heard nice things about this restaurant . How did you try the fried chicken! Did they give you a sample? I would order dark meat chicken all day long if I could.

    1. I didn’t know the names of the songs. I just recall old blue tunes. I took a bite of Maggie’s chicken. She loves white meat. We should all write in and ask for dark meat chicken!

  4. I really like this place! The stuffed pork chop is one of the pork chops in town that I actually highly recommend. I love the atmosphere here – it’s feels all quaint and cozy. Good stuff!

    1. Have you tried the ribs? They were a special but unavailable when I went. 🙁 That’s good to know the stuffed pork chops are great! I’m use to plain ones.

      1. No, I haven’t tried the ribs – I’ve only had the pork chop and catfish. Been meaning to come back but haven’t managed it yet!

        1. Yes it’s rather far from my place and the traffic is terrible in that direction week nights. 🙁
