These streets were old when I was young and first walked upon them.  Streets here had such cool names.  We walked to Fulton St or Clement St depending on what bus we needed to take.  My mom flew my brother and I up to visit our aunt during winter break.  So cold.  I had never been so cold before and I got sick.  Living in San Diego I had never been exposed to temperature extremes before.  Still the vacation was awesome.  There were awesome sights to see such as the Golden Gate Park and Seal Rocks and delicious Chinese food to eat.  Better than any found in San Diego.

Now I take my kid to San Francisco each summer to visit my aunt and to eat delicious Chinese food.  Jennifer O. said I would find the best baked cha siu bao in San Francisco at Lung Fung Bakery on Clement St.

I walk with my kid down Clement St. like I did when I was a kid.  People are nice here.  There are many delicious looking baked goods but I came by to try the baked cha siu bao.  They were fresh and hot from the warming oven.  Slightly sweet flavor from the pastry nicely complimented the delicious bbq pork filling.  This is one of the best baked cha siu bao I have ever had.  We will be back for our walk down these old streets next summer for more cha sui bao.

  1. That is a really nice picture of your daughter and family. I want a freshly baked bbq bun right out of the oven 🙁 Maybe we should open a bao store. Like we bake every bao to order and customers can stuff bao with whatever they want. I love SF b/c of the cold and fog. I wish SD was that cold sometimes.

    1. You are wise. Let me know when you get a good bao recipe. I can follow directions but I never made bao before.

Thanks! Sadly SF isn’t that cold or foggy now. Global warming. 🙁

  3. wow those prices! we’re going to SF for a wedding next month so maybe i’ll put this on the list to check out.

    1. Are you a fan of baked cha siu bao? Have fun in SF! I have a week booked for next summer. 🙂

  4. Hi Soo – I just saw this after reading your post about Imperial Mandarin. This is my mom’s to go place for baked char siu bao in SF. I used to live a few blocks away, but that was over 25 years ago. Nowadays, I usually get baked char siu bao from Canton Bakery in National City.

    1. Sandy,

You were lucky living next to Lung Fung! I love vising when I go to San Francisco.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll give Canton Bakery a try.

Next time you go to SF try Lai Hong Lounge:

  5. I checked the link for Lai Hong Lounge; they have a sister restaurant, Hong Kong Lounge, that is very close to Lung Fung. Hong Kong Lounge is my sister-in-law’s favorite dim sum restaurant; the dim sum is excellent but the wait on weekends is insane.

    1. I’ll have to give Hong Kong Lounge a try on a weekday. The wait at Lai Hong Lounge is pretty crazy too.
